132 Life per Spirit Spent / 49.5% Crit Hit Transcendence Build | Diablo 3 Monk Build

The idea here was to incorporate life on spirit spent and the transcendence passive to create a super-healing-mantra-spamming monk. The experiment was a success :) There’s two versions of this build here, the mantra of conviction spamming DPS build and then the mantra of evasion super tanky build.

DPS build

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#aVigXk!ZYU!YccYba

Fists of Thunder with Quickening Rune - With 49.5% crit and 15 spirit everytime you crit you have spirit. A lot of it. A metric shit ton of it. All this spirit means you can spam…

Mantra of Conviction with Overawe Rune - Giving you almost a constant 48% increase to your DPS.

Transcendence - I’m wearing a helm with +29 life per spirit spent and using a weapon with +41.1 life per spirit spent, giving me a total of 132.1 life per spirit spent, or 6605 life everytime I hit mantra of conviction. This is more than enough to keep me up with most mob packs.

Exploding Palm with Essence Burn rune – This is just something fun I was trying out with the build. You have some room to play around with as far as skills go here. Exploding palm is a lot of fun with trash packs. Give it a shot. It’s not too bad of damage for the spirit spent either. 40 spirit 250% weapon damage without the exploding portion, a good way to use this against elites is to cast it on a rotation on different mobs so that it ticks on several at the same time.

The other skills are pretty standard and should be self explanatory.

Tank build

Fists of Thunder with Quickening Rune - With 49.5% crit and 15 spirit everytime you crit you have spirit. A lot of it. A metric shit ton of it. All this spirit means you can spam…

Mantra of Evasion with Hard Target Rune - You should be spamming this along with…

Dashing Strike with the Blinding Speed Rune - Coupled with Mantra of Evasion spamming you should be running at +35% dodge ontop of the flat 15% from regular Mantra of evasion.

Passives - Transcendence of course, sixth sense is really good with high crit, with my crit at 49.5% this passive gives me 14.85% more dodge, and then the resist passive is always good.

Equipment

You should build just like a crit monk for every piece of equipment, except in addition to the normal +crit damage on weapons you want to look for life on spirit spent(I think it caps out around 50/spirit spent, my weapon has 41.1) and also you want to get +life on spirit spent on your helmet along with +crit chance and a socket if you can. Generally this combo won’t be TOO expensive as nobody buys +life on spirit spent right now.

Screenshot of every piece of equipment I’m using in this build along with all stats, please like to reveal.

    Hello healthy Gamer,

this is a monk from Germany, i regullary visit your website and I’m impressed how deep and differenciatet you generate new builds alll the time. And I also like your atitude towards fun, life and health. Actally I’m a a doctor in internal medicine and what i keep doing is that, for example if i am leveling, evry level i do somethinh healthy (push ups, drinking some water or something to keep my mind fit(reading). So i try not to sit in a too ling time in front of the monitor and to do some brakes every time.

And so you are right gaming is healthy, also in a sense that it keeps the kid alive in us, and what is healthier than kids.

Sorry for my English, tried to express my thoughts as good as possible.

    Greetings
    Dirk

Very cool Dr. Dirk, I’ve actually visited Germany a few times and love the country, plan on coming over next October for Octoberfest so maybe we can get a beer together!

I really like your idea of doing pushups and such everytime you level. Getting moving while gaming is so essential. What do you think of standing desks? I just bought one for my new house and am trying it out.

Thanks for the nice comment, and guten tag :)

So I couldn’t sleep last night, but I got to thinking about other ways monks do damage… and I got to thinking about the whole IAS thing, and life leech. I think dual tornadoes has me trying to think of too much synergy, but I have some pretty crazy apneatic (not in the sexy way) inspired thinking for ya.

This is just a guess at something, but take a look at this.
    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#bcXikg!Zdc!cYbYcY

    Concept:
•http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5589543408 the dual tornado barb build
•skills that don’t scale on IAS, but instead would scale on the damage of your ugly stick.

So the idea is to run sweeping wind, tempest rush, and the submission rune on manta of conviction while using the slowest, biggest two hander if these skills are similar to say blizzard and all do no have any relation to your IAS, but instead function on your weapon damage.

    Problems:
•Reaching either 8 or 6.4 spirit regen/sec (assuming guardian’s path 25% kick works on passive regen). I’d much rather only have to get 6.4, but the build I proposed has an interesting double stack that tempest rush will flat out reduce damage by 25% while being channeled and that resolve will keep everything near you doing 25% less as well. This requires anywhere from 1.4 (easy in one piece) to 3 (not as easy, especially with just helm and beat stick)
•Chant of the resonant and inner storm are definitely sub optimal picks, but give us more than half the spirit regen we’d need, free of gear.

    Questions:
•Is there an easy way to work in the cyclone rune on sweeping wind, I think fitting this in would kick this build way way into overdrive. My though would be to keep the mantra passive (2) pick up inna’s 3 piece (2.6+) and the rest on weapon (2.3+) for total of nearly 7… I think (theory craft for without having to run the reduced channel cost) that after you start to channel from full you could run with tempest rush for 15 seconds stopping midway to pop a heal… then running for another 15 seconds… then stop to top off with reach? I sounds like it could be done easily.
•Life leech, which is where this build could open up as well and get ridiculous… do tornadoes (cyclone) and submission (mantra) and tempest rush itself integrate well with life leech?
•Do all these abilities really not care about your “dps” number and more about your weapons actual listed damage?
•Monk Skill Bonus: Sweeping Wind… does that effect tornadoes? It could be a nice little add in even if not.
•Do tempest rush crits build up sweeping wind? Do they proc tornadoes?
•Last, but a little stupid question. Does tempest rush’s channel work with life per spirit, and by extension transendence? This could build in upwards of 1000+ life/second from skill interaction, life per spirit spent interaction… then factor in actual life per second mods and life steal?

I may try and test some of this later, but I have no access to Innas at the moment, my crit is a bit too low for cyclone, and I think I am about to pass out! …but I think this build could have super crazy trash clearing speeds and safety (43%ish damage mitigation just for running the build)

Any rate sir, talking d3 with you has been the most fun I’ve had since about the first 5 hours I played after release.

    • The Healthy Gamer

Hah I was just coming here to tell you to put that on the forums but I see you already did. Cool theory will definitely try it out when I have some time.

  • Redharp

With that amount of crit, why not go for +dodge=30%crit pasive?

    • The Healthy Gamer

True may have to try that.
